Do we Need to Judge People

Prakash Srinivasan

True love just loves and does not judge is an adage or even a clichéd romantic exultation but in real life we just do the opposite most of the times. We do not like people for what they do and how they treat us but we try to see who they “really are.” Of course, this is needed sometimes when we are in challenging situations and when we need to test the reliability of people in certain dealing especially critical/financial ones. A related thought is also that we should always focus on the good traits of someone and ignore the bad traits. We can advise them about their bad traits but we should not jump to a conclusion by magnifying their bad traits unless it’s something so glaring!
We must also be generous enough to forgive people for their unintentional and initial mistakes. Many a times we find it tough to pardon our friend or colleague for a mistake which happens by chance. When we forgive and patch up, we feel lighter as our ego gets crushed and we embrace goodness with such acts.
I read a nice analogy on this and wish to reproduce it as below, it’s the best way to help us just focus on the many good of others:
“I am sure pretty much everyone would have some reason to justify that a rose is beautiful even though it is surrounded by thorns.
Now, switching over to people.
What do you think?
Do you focus on the “rose” in them or do you do you focus on the “thorns” surrounding that “rose” in them?
Why focus on the “thorns” instead of the “rose”?
Well, it may be convenient to focus on the thorns because most people around you are focusing there OR you might just want to feel good that others have thorns too or. Whatever may be the reason, it is tempting to notice and focus on the “thorns” out there.
But, you also know that you HAVE A choice!”
So why not we all begin by focusing on the positive and inspiring aspects - the ROSE- in each of us.
